Shortcuts in YakChat

Shortcuts let you save pre-written messages (for example: greetings, signatures, disclaimers, or FAQs) and insert them into a chat in seconds—so your team can reply faster and stay consistent.

What you can do with shortcuts

  • Create a library of commonly used messages

  • Insert a shortcut while you’re typing (no copy/paste)

  • Edit or delete shortcuts at any time

Create a shortcut

  1. Open Settings in the app.

  2. Go to the Shortcuts tab.

  3. Select Create Shortcut.

  4. Enter:

    • Name (how you’ll recognise it)

    • Message (the text you want inserted/sent)

  5. Save.

Tip: Use clear names like Intro, Closing, Opt-out, Support hours.

Edit or delete a shortcut

  1. Open SettingsShortcuts.

  2. Select the shortcut you want to change.

  3. Choose Edit (update the name or message) or Delete.

Use a shortcut in a conversation

Option 1: Use the shortcut button

  1. Open the conversation.

  2. Click the Shortcut button (lightning bolt icon).

  3. Choose the shortcut you want.

  4. Review the message (if needed), then send.

Option 2: Type a hashtag

While typing a message, type a # to quickly insert a shortcut.

Troubleshooting

  • I can’t see the Shortcuts tab: Check you’re in the app Settings (not device settings) and try closing/reopening the app.

  • My shortcut didn’t insert: Try the lightning bolt icon instead of the hashtag method, then re-try.

  • Team consistency: If you use shortcuts for compliance or standard wording, agree internal naming conventions (for example, Legal - …, Support - …).

  • Creating consistent signatures for your team

  • Standard responses for common customer questions

  • Using templates for opt-in / opt-out messaging
